Eagle-eyed fellow-worker Nick Pistor noted that the iconic red Budweiser sign over Anheuser-Busch's Bevo brewery on South Broadway has been murkiness these last few nights.

Last night, he even went and snapped a picture . Sure enough, no sign on the darkness sky.

So we wondered, as newsmen do, what gives? A blown fuse? Budget cuts? Subversion by MillerCoors? Are the Clydesdales next?

Turns out, it's just the weather.

The old sign often gets switched off when it's bug and rainy like it has been the last few days, said A-B InBev spokesman Michael Lourie. One of my greatest gardening anxieties is caused by waiting to see if thrips have charmed over the roses. To me, there is nothing more insidious or disheartening than a thrip infestation. It normally occurs during bounce and summer because these insects pick to provision in like a shot growing chain, which means new shoots and bud buds. Once you have them, it is discouraging because they are ill-behaved to authority over.
