I recently painted a thickset outdoor sign for a family friend's business and am wondering what the effective rate to charge is. The sign is about 6 feet by 8 feet, pretty particularized, and the job took about 17 hours to complete. Do I charge hourly or by the job?

It's so much raise to work these things out before you agree to do the work...because there are so many factors that shape the price you'll ask. And also because, as you may very well learn before this is over, many people do not think artists have the straight to ask for money.

In preference to of signing a finished painting with a paintbrush, is it considered acceptable to sign it in ink? If so, which persuasion of pen would be best for this? I have a painting that I don't want to sign in paint because of its size, and a pen would be more accurate
