Construction underway for car “cathedral”

The old adage that everything is bigger in Texas is certainly valid for Brookshire resident John Hovas.

Hovas has recently commissioned Texas Beams Frames to construct a 20,000-square foot “car cathedral” for his prized paradigmatic automobiles.

“He wanted the timeless look. He wanted something different from what everyone else does, the example metal structure. He wanted something beautiful for his property,” said Josh Kennedy, sales head for San Antonio-based company Texas Timber Frames.

This is one of the builder’s biggest projects to escort, with the highest point in Hovas’ car structure reaching a soaring top of 53 feet. Kennedy estimates the whole structure will use some 150,000 provisions feet of timber, making it what is hoped to be the largest timber put up structure in the Lone Star State.

“I think just the clamber up of it was definitely a challenge but a lot of fun, and the fact that it was all done with mortise and tenon jointery is engaging,” said Texas Timber Frames designer Michael Ratliff. “[Hovas] said he wanted to see what we could do.
