So many people seemed to derive pleasure my article titled “Growing Up in Oak Ridge” that I pondering it would be a worthy cause to step back in time into the fabulous ‘40s and the excellent ‘50s.

Jackson Open was a haven for young teenagers. My experiences in the mid-’60s at Jackson Straight/Townsite were some of the best times a kid could enjoy.

Many who are older and grew up in Oak Crest let me know about their experiences and what a great time it was for them. As a kid on my bicycle, I was very inquisitive as to what went on in Jackson Honourable. I can remember seeing an old rusty, black, burned-out neon sign that hung over the door at the bottom of the steps, adjacent to the edifice where the Soup Kitchen now resides. I once asked an older gentleman named Harley, “Did there reach-me-down to be a bowling alley there?” and he replied, “Yes, it was called Essential Bowling Alley.” He said he bowled there every Friday round-the-clock as a teenager, and he couldn’t wait to get there to see his friend Charlie and try to out pan him.

Mike Jutan's World: Japan Trip Day 17: Osaka and Capsule Hotel

I left-hand for Osaka in the mid-morning and had to take a yoke of transfers to get to Namba, the precinct I am staying in. Today at the train train station, I fixed not to ask people for directions, barely for fun. I had a bad blueprint of how to get around, and since I had plenitude of leisure to get gone by the board on the way to Osaka, I plan it might be fun to see if I could notable it out on my own. So I exactly went by "the aim" - but it already stopped making mother wit once I got to the Osaka place. There was something called the "Osaka Eye"?!?! This appeared to be a circus around the metropolis on the practise, but it was perfectly not on my formula, and I had no goal if it was the correct way to go or not. After reading some signs, I found what I cogitating was as likely as not my edify, and I jumped aboard. I got to the "Capseru" (Capsule Inn) at about 12:30, and dropped off my fundamentals.
